Blazing Bluefin Tuna Charters

Blazing Bluefin Tuna Charters is a catch and release adventure for those wanting a real fish story to brag about. We are located on the Northumberland Strait & St. George’s Bay in Northeastern Nova Scotia which boasts some of the best bluefin tuna fishing in the world.

Location

Blazing Charters is based out of Cribbons Point Marina, Morristown, near the town of Antigonish, Nova Scotia. Our tuna season runs from September to late October and the average weight of a tuna is 500 to 1200 pounds. A local area fisherman landed one in late October 2014 that was 1391 pounds. It was 105 pounds short of the world record in 1979.

The Captain

The Captain and Owner is Blaise Boyd, whose family has lived in the area for 8 generations and fished commercially for 4. Blaise was born and raised in Antigonish and owned his own lobster gear at the age of 17. After 5 years, he moved to Calgary, Alberta and opened several successful fish and seafood businesses including Boyd’s Lobster Shop and Boyd’s Seafood Restaurant.

Once Blaise made his mark in Calgary, he headed back east to return to his true passion of fishing. He currently holds commercial licenses for lobsters, scallops, mackerel, herring and tuna.

The Colton Gerard

Blaise recently refitted his 43 foot fibreglass boat for client comfort and safety.
The Colton Gerard is powered by a 435 HP CAT Diesel Engine.
It is equipped with:

Just finished an amazing trip to Nova Scotia. 5 giant bluefins in 3 days. All the fish ran between 100-120 inches. (They said cookie cutter size LOL) which they tell me is between 500-700lbs...
We arrived in Halifax and took 2 hour drive to a town called Antigonish. We stayed at a 4 bedroom house on top of a hill surrounded by the ocean on three sides.
We woke up the next morning at 5:30 and walked down the hill - 100 feet to the boat. On the boat was homemade danishes, coffee and rolls made by the captains wife (she owns and runs a restaurant). We ate good all day long, snacks at 11 am, lobster rolls at 1 pm and a well stocked cooler of drinks. It took 1 hour to get to the fishing grounds. Water depths ran between 65 to 100 ft. of water. Lots of pilot whales and seals greeted us when we arrived. There were mixed in with these giant bluefin tuna. Before long we were hand feeding these giant tuna. I felt like I was living a T.V. show........
I booked again for next year, probably some of the most amazing fishing I have ever experienced.
